Description

It is a 15- to 35-meter-tall tree with a straight, branched trunk, heterogeneous crown, and brown or glossy petrol-green bark. The leaves are oblong or ovate-oblong, the terminal inflorescences cymose. The flowers are small and white. This species is unmistakable for its greenish-brown bark, which peels off in giant choreic plates. It is found in upland and alluvial areas, near and far from water bodies, in soils used for a variety of uses in high light intensity and in shade. It is resistant to flooding. It shares its habitat with species such as guava, pink poma, pandisho, retama, bijao, casho, huito, cetico, capinurí, ubos, pichirina, aguaje, pijuayo, guaba, guanábana, cedar, barbasco, huamansamana, camu-camu, yumanasa, and tamamuri.
